Dear North Parents and Students:
I hope your summer is off to a great start. Although you have the entire summer vacation in front of you, it is time to start organizing the 2018-19 North Pep Band. The Pep Band is a highly-recognized organization that performs at the North varsity football games. Being one of the largest groups in the entire school, it is responsible for much of the school’s spirit and pride. The North Pep Band is open to all 9th-12th graders who play flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, or drums. Except for drummers, no audition is required to join Pep Band (drums audition in the spring). However, students must be enrolled in a band or orchestra class to participate in Pep Band.
Pep Band practice begins with several rehearsals prior to the start of school so that we can be ready for the first football game. To accommodate those who are involved in sports, I have tried to schedule the rehearsal dates and times to reduce conflicts. In the event that you are unable to make some of these rehearsals, please let me know by email or phone. Students must commit to the majority of rehearsals in August to belong to the Pep Band. All rehearsals will be in the North Band/Orchestra Room (C-101).
This year the Pep Band will be performing at Cedar Point on Friday, August 24th. Please make every attempt to attend this event so that we can sound our best. After we perform, students will have the entire day to enjoy the park.
Orchestra members who would like to participate in Pep Band may perform on a secondary instrument (we have had several orchestra members perform with the Pep Band in previous years). Contact me if you need help with instruction on a new instrument.
Parents, please make note of the Parent’s Meeting on Tuesday, August 14th. Important information will be covered.
Pep Band has been great fun in past years and I look forward to getting started this season. I want to especially encourage incoming ninth-graders to participate in the Pep Band; it is a wonderful way to meet friends and get involved in your school. Last year’s Pep Band was fantastic, and this year’s group may be the best yet!
Have a great summer! Sincerely,
Director of Instrumental Music North High School
