Grosse Pointe North impresses judges at MSBOA State Solo & Ensemble Festival! PDF Print E-mail
msboalogoGrosse Pointe North High School was represented extremely well this past weekend at MSBOA State Solo and Ensemble Festival held at Farmington Harrison High School. Students performed solos and ensembles for professional adjudicators and were given a rating of 1-5 based on the quality of their performance. Students were judged on the overall execution of their performance, including technique, intonation, ensemble, tone, and dynamics. Performances good enough to receive a 1st or 2nd division rating were awarded medals. In addition to performing a prepared selection, 10th-12th grade soloists had to also perform a series of scales and sight reading (proficiency test).

All students performing at the state festival received a superior 1st place medal at the district festival held in January.

The following students received 2nd division medals for an excellent performance: Lauren Brush (flute solo); Gabby T., Karyn S., Makenna H. (flute trio); Conner B., Harrison C. (brass duet); Makenna H., Katherine M. (woodwind duet); Nathan D., Bobby M., Michael J. (trumpet trio); William C., Joseph B., Michael B.i (percussion trio); Leah F., Allison F. (violin/clarinet duet); Lakshman M (violin solo).

The following students received a 1st division medal for a superior performance: Ryan W., Dan K. (brass duet); Emily H. (violin solo); Michael J., Nathan D., Bobby M., Max E., Steven L. (brass quintet); Keelia H., Analise G. (cello/clarinet duet); Sarah S., Brian A.,(violin duet); Maxwell Y. (trumpet solo); Elizabeth M., Keelia H. (cello duet); Kayla L. (viola solo); Isabella C. (violin solo); Emily H., Isabella C. (violin duet); Michael S., Matthew S. (violin duet); Melina G. (cello solo); Ryan W., Conner B., Andres H., Harrison C, Grant S., Michael B., Bobby M., Nick F. (brass octet); Jordan R. (piano solo); Karyn S. (flute solo); Analisa G., Kristina K. (woodwind duet); Elizabeth M., Tess K., Melina G., Isabella C., Patrick S., Albert K., Lakshman M., Taylor W., Kayla L., Laura H., Michael S., Matthew S., Emily H. , Kate F. (string chamber choir)

The above students are members of the North Band or Orchestra Program under the direction of David Cleveland,and Kemmer Weinhaus. Several of these students also study privately after school and we would like to thank all of their private lesson teachers for coaching them.
